After a successful album and the following supporting tours, Wednesday 13 is back with a new release. This time the former lead singer of the Murderdolls has put out a CD/DVD package of his self titled band playing live in Allentown, Pennsylvania on July 18^th, 2007. I’ve seen him live twice already after the release of Skeletons. Once it was a great experience, the other gig was a bit disappointing. For this reason I was really curious how the band handled the pressure of knowing the show would be filmed and recorded for this release.

There is nothing wrong with the songs they chose for their set and the way these songs are played. The fact that this release doesn’t have a really high rating is basically due to one thing: the DVD. I probably would have loved the show when I was present during the recordings and I love the show when I only listen to the music, but the DVD bores the living hell out of me to be quite frank. There is nothing wrong with the content, although they could have put some extras on it. It’s just the way the content was put on this particular disc. The footage just can’t hold your attention, because you’re constantly thinking that you’re just watching a just above average bootleg video. On the other hand, the “raw” footage fits the way Wednesday 13 wants to profile himself and his band. But that’s probably the only reason. 

All in all I definitely recommend the CD, ‘cause you get a nice representative image of what a good Wednesday 13 show sounds like. With the accompanying DVD you just have to be creative. Put it on the wall of your bedroom for some additional light effects, join a disc dog competition or just use it as a coaster. You’ll figure something out.
